Psa. 118:10-14

Lesson # Psa. 118:10-14
Study Material - Psa. 118:10-14

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Psa. 118:10-14

10 All nations [gowy] compassed me about [cabab] : but in the name [shem] of the LORD [Yahovah] will I destroy [muwl] them.
11 They compassed me about [cabab] ; yea, they compassed me about [cabab] : but in the name [shem] of the LORD [Yahovah] I will destroy [muwl] them.
12 They compassed me about [cabab] like bees [dabowrah] ; they are quenched [daak] as the fire [esh] of thorns [qowts] : for in the name [shem] of the LORD [Yahovah] I will destroy [muwl] them.
13 Thou hast thrust [dachah] sore [dachah] at me that I might fall [naphal] : but the LORD [Yahovah] helped [azar] me.
14 The LORD [Yahh] is my strength [oz] and song [zimrath] , and is become my salvation [yashuwah] . KJV-Interlinear

Psa. 118:10-14

10 All nations surrounded me; In the name of the LORD I will surely cut them off. 11 They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me; In the name of the LORD I will surely cut them off. 12 They surrounded me like bees; They were extinguished as a fire of thorns; In the name of the LORD I will surely cut them off. 13 You pushed me violently so that I was falling, But the LORD helped me. 14 The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation. NAS

David is surrounded by nations. But what are nations, but collections of peoples, with leaders, and it is the philosophies of the leaders or their lusts which result in conflict with Israel and David.

Nations can also be a reference to collections of other sources of trouble and though David's trouble was from both without and within the nations of Israel, we may look to any source of trouble in our individual lives. There is no shortage of sources of trouble in this world. They can be intense of just annoying.

In these verses David, in his repetition, emphasizes the intense nature, the overwhelming swarming (as with bees), the constant pressure, the volume which overwhelms ones life, the furious nature of the trouble such that it can make your head swim.

The nations keep on and keep on applying pressure. Sometimes it is obvious as with a military attack. Sometimes it can be subtle as with politics and the deceptive nature of that sort. Not all pressures are obvious. Often pressures just build up inside of you such that you just want to burst into a rage and strike out at anything and everything. The pressure might be undefined. You might just feel overwhelmed with life and the demands of it on you. So you scream - 'Enough!' Many a person has broken down emotionally because the stresses of life have become too great.

Such is the case with David. The pressures 'pushed' and 'pushed' and he was enticed and tempted to retaliate in anger, to lash out, but ...

He turned inwardly to his own soul and looked to God (the knowledge within his soul and used that to fight off the pressure and to find peace from his pressures. Easier said than done??? No and yes.

No if you have been faithful to your Bible study and have advanced to some form of spiritual maturity. Which also means that you have been able to build up a capacity for pressure and therefore an ability to cope with it.

Yes, it is easier said than done if you have not been faithful to your Bible study. Wherein you lack the spiritual resources to cope with life. People around you say, 'Calm down. Calm down.' But your head is spinning out of control and you just cannot.

Without Bible doctrine in your soul, without any significant spiritual assets with which to face life, it is very difficult to fight off even the attack of mosquitoes (little problems). But with substantial spiritual growth, then the charge of a herd of elephants (really big problems) is easily handled.

The difference is your state of soul. You will face problems in life Can't avoid them, and God will not remove them. This is the devils world and we have to live with it for the time being. God has given us the means of facing any problem in life, and that is Bible doctrine.

Will God give us a secret design for the next generation of computer chips? No. Will God give us the secret formula for make us rich? No. Bible doctrine is not meant for that purpose. Bible doctrine is a spiritual formula which gives us a complete picture of life. It is supernatural, therefore invisible in its function. Any unbeliever can read the Bible and will get nothing from it. But a believer in fellowship will receive the spiritual benefit of Bible doctrine, and that doctrine will enter into the soul and become the building framework for a strong soul. You adorn that framework by applying Bible doctrine to your daily life. This builds up muscle like a beach guys pumping iron day after day until they are all bronzed and bursting with muscles. The difference is that spiritual muscle will last you through any problem in life and will last forever. The beach guys will grow old and all that beautiful muscle will melt away into worthlessness. Might look good when you are twenty, but when you are lying in your casket what good is it?

David repeats that his troubles surround him, but he also repeats that it is the Lord, who will cut them all off. How? In one way - Bible doctrine in the soul. This gives you clarity of thought. In some cases the answer to your problems will come to you and you will think your way out. In other ways, you might be overwhelmed and God will have made provisions (in eternity past) which will come along and bail you out. God gave you a brain and the ability to reason. Sometimes you have to use your brain. I know that might asking a lot from some - but then ...

In other cases you just might no have any options so you can only turn to God in prayer. But do not be lazy and ignore the obvious options you really do have. God is not going to let you get away with pretending just because you do not want to do something. Taking a test in school - better study for it. God is not going to put the answers into your little brain at test time just because you did not study and are praying for the answers. Get real!

Have a tornado bearing down on you. Time to get to the cellar and now you can pray - really pray.

Advance in your spiritual life and fulfill your responsibilities in life. That should give you a good guide to having a great life. Cheat on one or the other and you'll find problems galore which will consume you.

True strength comes from Bible doctrine in the soul - 'The Lord is my strength ... The Lord is my refuge ... The Lord is my shield ... The Lord is my shepherd ... He Lord is my salvation ...'

How do these all function? By learning Bible doctrine, by advancing in your spiritual life, by being obedient to God in applying His Word to your daily life. We studied long ago the three areas of responsibility that apply to all believers. See the Special Studies section on the index page. These do not change. God will not change to conform to us. We must change to conform to His Will.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
