Psa. 118:19-21

Lesson # Psa. 118:19-21
Study Material - Psa. 118:19-21

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Psa. 118:19-21

19 Open [pathach] to me the gates [shaar] of righteousness [tsedeq] : I will go [bow] into them, and I will praise [yadah] the LORD [Yahh] :
20 This gate [shaar] of the LORD [Yahovah] , into which the righteous [tsaddiyq] shall enter [bow] .
21 I will praise [yadah] thee: for thou hast heard [anah] me, and art become my salvation [yashuwah] . KJV-Interlinear

Psa. 118:19-21

19 Open to me the gates of righteousness; I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD; The righteous will enter through it. 21 I shall give thanks to Thee, for Thou hast answered me; And Thou hast become my salvation. NAS

Righteousness is the state of perfection. Justice is the proper treatment of that which is not perfect. Combined, these two, righteousness and justice, become holiness.

We live in a sphere of sin and death. We cannot escape that state unless a path is opened up to us through which we can escape from sin and death. The path is Gods righteousness and justice. The two combined creates a gate through which we can escape sin and death. That gate leads to salvation or the state of freedom from sin and death.

This path comes from God and only from God. Man cannot create his own gate. Man cannot invent his own gate. Man cannot discover this gate through which escape from sin and death might be accomplished on mans own terms.

The gate belongs to the Lord and to no other. God invented the gate, Jesus Christ (the Lord) is the reality of the gate. Only Gods righteousness can enter through this gate which leads to salvation. This righteousness is Gods righteousness and not mans righteousness. Isaiah describes mans righteousness in not to complimentary terms. Suffice to say that mans righteousness on its best day, is nothing more than filth and ultimate disgust.

In order to gain salvation, man has to travel through the gate defined by God. Man cannot travel through a gate defined by man. Only Gods righteousness can enter through that gate. Mans righteousness is excluded.

Mans salvation or freedom from sin and death comes from God and from nowhere else. Likewise, mans spiritual life comes from God and from nowhere else. Man cannot define his own spiritual life, nor even take some of Gods wisdom and incorporate a little of mans ideas into a new and improved spiritual life. God rejects all that is not from Him. Anything that comes from sources other than God is highly prejudiced, self serving, and therefore evil.

Remember that we came to this study of Psa. 118 via our study in Matt. 21:42. In Matthew we have seen that the chief priests were extremely negative toward Jesus Christ. We know that they had their own self defined philosophy of righteousness, through their substantial religious regulations and traditions, to which they looked for their relationship with God.

Here we have read what David has written in his fairly clear description of righteousness, the gate of salvation, who owns that gate, and who is allowed through it. The priests read and knew the words of David. They held him is very high regard (at least superficially). David was a handy card to play when the priests debated with the 'common' folk. Common folk are all peoples who lack the substantial education which the priests had, and therefore had little if any argument against their priestly positions.

So too, we all have a Bible study available to us, but how many find excuses to avoid it, or explanations as to the things we do not agree with, 'I don't agree with that' and therefore justify our not following a daily Bible study. Kind of defeats our self with our own argument.

How many can't find the time to study daily, or weekly, or even on holidays. 'I'll start when I have more time.' That time never comes around and your time grows nearer to your end of life with each tick of the clock. Negative attitudes are filled with procrastination, excuses, convenient traditional beliefs, and many more attitudes that find ways out of a daily Bible study.

The Bible is a mirror into which we can look at any point in time and see our true self. The real question is whether we will accept it and make the necessary changes in our self, or whether we will just ignore our flaws and compromises. Hummm! What exactly is at stake here?

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
