Zeph. 1:14

Lesson # Zeph. 1:14
Study Material - Zeph. 1:14

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Zeph. 1:14

14 The great [gadowl] day [yowm] of the LORD [Yahovah] is near [qarowb] , it is near [qarowb] , and hasteth [maher] greatly [ma`od] , even the voice [qowl] of the day [yowm] of the LORD [Yahovah] : the mighty man [gibbowr] shall cry [tsarach] there bitterly [mar] . KJV-Interlinear

14 Near is the great day of the LORD, Near and coming very quickly; Listen, the day of the LORD! In it the warrior cries out bitterly. NASB

The day of the Lord is coming and it is coming fast. How so? Well each of us will face death sooner or later. We have only the time allotted to us on this earth with which to form our lives. Once we die, then we are helplessly lost to the next life and there we await the Judgment.

For believers that judgment is the Judgment Seat of Christ - a good place to be by the way. For unbelievers, the last judgment waiting for them is the Great White Throne, which will occur at the end of the Millennium - definitely not a good place to be.

Zeph. 2:15
'I am, and there is no one besides me.' NASB

Jesus Christ is the Only and Wise God. There is no other. There will be no one else who will determine our future. Christ will weigh each one of our lives personally and we, each one of us, will stand face to face before the Lord. That will be either a very terrifying or awesome moment in each of our lives.

To those who have pursued Gods will for their lives, then there is great blessing coming to them. To those believers who have been less than prudent in pursuing their spiritual lives, then there will be great disappointment (not receiving any of those extra blessings).

For unbelievers, there will be nothing short of a terrifying eternity with terror which will never end. Their tears, their uncontrollable wailing will never end, for there will be no one to save them. What is more, our current verse describes the soldier who cries out bitterly. Who is the soldier - any unbeliever. All unbelievers are in effect soldiers who have set themselves against God (the one true God, Jesus Christ). Allying with false gods doesn't gain them anything.

Their crying is that of defiance, of bitterness, of unbelievable rejection of God even in the face of their own destruction and condemnation. Such is the power of a negative attitude. Your sin nature is powerful and you should never underestimate it. It can entrap your life and send you off into oblivion. Our current examples in this day are the attitudes demonstrated by terrorists. Their defiance against everything good is or should be perfectly clear to everyone who witnesses and hears their words and actions. And again extreme defiance is not limited to terrorists. It is possible that there are very nice people living among us who just do not care for having anything to do with God. The are by definition just as evil and just as potentially dangerous to society.

'Listen.' That is the key word in this verse. 'Listen.' Listen up and pay attention. Your life, your very future depends on what you do on a daily basis. We study this time a time again because the Bible hammers on this subject over and over again and again. Listen, learn, be obedient, grow up, and have the greatest life you could ever imagine. Your dreams (imagination) are nothing when compared to that which God has waiting for you.

That terrifying day will come. That is the promise of God. It is a certain day which will occur in history. It will only be terrifying if you fail to believe in Christ. It will only be extremely disappointing if you fail to advance in your spiritual life.

Imagine yourself as a small child. You have this promise to go to Disneyland. You reject the promise so you don't get to make the trip. You are left behind, alone and helpless. You don't even believe that there is a Disneyland.

As a believer, you of course get to make the trip, but along the way, you become disinterested in the instructions you receive on the bus. When you get there, you are left outside at the gate. You get to play on the awesome but simple playgrounds outside the park, but do not receive the special tickets to go into the more fun parts of the park. Only those who paid attention and obeyed the instructions while traveling, receive the special tickets allowing them to go to the more fun places and they get to stay there, getting to go to even more funs places forever.

So it is with life. That day of judgment, of evaluation is coming and it coming fast like a rocket. Do you ignore the facts of life? Do you procrastinate because you aren't quite sure? Do you have something better for your life than what God has for you? Or do you wake up and take all of this Bible stuff seriously?

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
