Zeph. 2:14-15

Lesson # Zeph. 2:14-15
Study Material - Zeph. 2:14-15

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Zeph. 2:14-15

14 And flocks [eder] shall lie down [rabats] in the midst [tavek] of her, all the beasts [chay] of the nations [gowy] : both the cormorant [qa'ath] and the bittern [qippowd] shall lodge [luwn] in the upper lintels [kaphtor] of it; their voice [qowl] shall sing [shiyr] in the windows [challown] ; desolation [choreb] shall be in the thresholds [caph] : for he shall uncover [arah] the cedar work [arzah] .
15 This is the rejoicing [alliyz] city [iyr] that dwelt [yashab] carelessly [betach] , that said [amar] in her heart [lebab] , I am, and there is none beside [ephec] me: how is she become a desolation [shammah] , a place for beasts [chay] to lie down in [marbets] ! every one that passeth by [abar] her shall hiss [sharaq] , and wag [nuwa] his hand [yad] . KJV-Interlinear

14 And flocks will lie down in her midst, All beasts which range in herds; Both the pelican and the hedgehog Will lodge in the tops of her pillars; Birds will sing in the window, Desolation will be on the threshold; For He has laid bare the cedar work. 15 This is the exultant city Which dwells securely, Who says in her heart, 'I am, and there is no one besides me.' How she has become a desolation, A resting place for beasts! Everyone who passes by her will hiss And wave his hand in contempt. NASB

The flocks and beasts are not of domesticated stock, but of the wild and untamed animal life which you would typically find in the jungle and forests and mountains and hills of an un-populated region.

The singing of birds, the roar and sounds of the wild will replace the hubbub of what was once a thriving civilization. No more car horns, no more sounds of industry, and of people going to and fro in their busy life.

The image of desolation and ruin is one of no human life, zero, zilch, none. There will be no human beings left alive in this region which Zephaniah is describing. And that of course is referring to Nineveh, the capital of Assyria, from Zephaniah's perspective, but from the Tribulation, this is a reference to the Northern power which will be utterly decimated in the Armageddon wars, and finished off when Christ returns.

From Moscow to China, from the Black Sea across all of what we today call Siberia, what would be the Northern Power will be totally obliterated of human life. Now we have a peek at the destiny of this region for the Millennium. It will become the largest wild life safari park ever.

The populations of the herds and the flocks will increase to huge numbers. Remember that in the Millennium that all aggressive animal life will cease. The lion and predators and such will become vegetarians of sorts. 'The lion and the lamb will lie down together.'

And why did all of this happen? Nineveh claimed for its self the attributes of Almighty God. 'I am, and there is no one besides me.' The peoples of the Northern regions had the following attitude:

Isa. 10:13
13 For he has said, 'By the power of my hand and by my wisdom I did this, For I have understanding; And I removed the boundaries of the peoples, And plundered their treasures, And like a mighty man I brought down their inhabitants, NASB

This was the attitude of the king of Assyria which reflects the attitude of the population of the Assyrian Empire. They were an arrogant and destructive people.

God is the only 'I Am.' A title which He used when speaking with Moses at the burning bush. You recall that discussion, and the meaning of the phrase, 'I Am.' God is the infinite self sustaining resource for Himself and for everyone. There is no one and nothing that supports and sustains God. God is the ultimate source for all things in this universe and in heaven.

The arrogance of the godless people of the North brought them to the point of their totally deluded state. When you are totally out of touch with reality then you think you can do anything without repercussions. A person can jump off of a tall building and land safely (in their own mind). A terrorist can blow themselves up along with everyone else and do it with the blessings of God, and go to heaven and get virgins. Totally delusional!

Being absent of human life also suggests one of two things. First that there will be no remnant of believers within the borders of the northern regions we know as Russia and the other countries surrounding them. Or, second, if there are any believers who survive to the Second Advent, then they will obviously move themselves to Jerusalem where Christ is located.

For the next thousand years (during the Millennium) or at least in the first few centuries, the grasslands and forests of the north will be virtually free of people. There the forest trees will grow to be huge. The herds will grow to become the safari trip of a lifetime. With perfect weather, and perfect temperaments in the animals, this will be the ideal vacation destination for the outdoors type.

The reaction from the people who survive, toward Nineveh (the land of the north) will be one of educational remembrance. They will shake their heads at the total arrogance that once was, and the results of their rejection of God. The evil people will no longer exist, and in their place will be the wildlife which act better than the previous occupants acted. The forests and grasslands will be more productive and look far more beautiful than all the beautiful architecture (cedar work) and grandness of the previous civilization now gone.

The parents will wave their hand with their contempt at the failure of evil as they teach their children and grandchildren and so forth. The Northern power had their chance to be saved and to be a part of the remnant, but through indifference, and rejection of God and doctrine, they actively chose their own destruction.

This is the nature of delusionment. And this threat stands in the way of each of us. If we drift away from a daily study of Gods Word, then we open ourselves up to this type of downfall in varying degrees. There is only one defense against failure in the spiritual life and that is through the study of Gods Word.

We need to commit ourselves to a daily study. Not once a week, not occasionally, not on holidays only, but everyday - no exceptions, for your entire life. You should commit yourself to a daily study and if at times you cannot get with a group with whom to study (perhaps you travel in your work), then get one of those pocket psalm and proverb books and take it with you wherever you go. Whatever your daily schedule, you should organize yourself to be able to take in your daily study each and everyday. Your future will be far better than having some wild animals do their 'dutty' in what was once your living room.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
