Revelation 3:16

16 So [houto] then because [hoti] thou art [ei] lukewarm, [chliaros] and [kai] neither [oute] cold [psuchros] nor [oute] hot, [zestos] I will [mello] spue [emeo] thee [se] out of [ek] my [mou] mouth. [stoma]    KJV-Interlinear

16 'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.    NASB

Spiritually lukewarm people, are not hot for doctrine or God, and they are not cold against doctrine or God.

But they have strong opinions regarding God and their Christian life, but their opinions are based on what is convenient to them, and not according to the scriptures.

All that they say and do, is for show, or for the benefit of impressing others, and thus is merely to satisfy their ego and their perception of self importance.

They over estimate their own worth to themselves and to others.  Their whole spiritual life is one of pretense and is phony through and through.

Christ says that He is ‘about’ to vomit them out of His mouth.  This is an attitude of extreme disgust.

About, means that there is always the opportunity for the lukewarm crowd to repent and get their act together.  However, given their attitude, that window of opportunity is narrow.  When people get into the mode of indifference toward truth, when their own opinions become more important than truth, then God will give them many opportunities to turn their life around, but at some point, God will let them have their way as He goes His own separate way, away from them, Ps 109:17-18; Jer 7:16; 11:14; 14:11; Isa 1:15; Hos 4:17.

And when God turns His back on you, then your life is in deep, deep, deep doo-doo.

This can occur on an individual basis, and in the future (Rapture/Tribulation) it will be applied on a worldwide basis.
