Christmas - 2005

Isa. 9:6
For unto us a child [yeled] is born [yalad], unto us a son [ben] is given [nathan]: and the government [misrah] shall be upon his shoulder [shakem]: and his name [shem] shall be called [qara] Wonderful [pele], Counsellor [ya`ats], The mighty [gibbowr] God [el], The everlasting [ad] Father [ab], The Prince [sar] of Peace [shalowm]. KJV-Interlinear

Isa. 9:6
6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. NASB

The Old Testament gave precise details about the coming of the Savior and King. Among many other things, it predicted that in His human life He would be:

supernaturally conceived, Isa. 7:14,
born in Bethlehem, Mic. 5:2,
be in the line of Abraham and of David, Gen. 9:26, 22:18, 2 Sam. 7:13,
be of the tribe of Judah, Gen. 49:10,
and would perform miracles, Isa. 35:5-6.

In His death He would be executed by rulers, Psa. 2:1-2,
forsaken by God, Psa. 22:1,
betrayed by a friend for thirty pieces of silver, Psa. 41:9, Zech. 11:12,
and have His beard plucked out and be spit upon, Isa. 50:6.

In His resurrection He would rise in three days, Hos. 6:2,
would not experience decay of His flesh, Psa. 16:10,
and would conquer death, Isa. 25:8.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, God existed and there was no one else. Angels were created, then the universe, and they were a happy lot, but then one grew impatient and unsatisfied and rebelled against God. Many followed and they ran throughout the galaxies with evil as their guide.

God told them all to return to their former ways of righteousness, but they refused. They challenged God. They taunted Him. They told Him He had not the right to decide for them. God issued indictments for their atrocities throughout the universe. A trial was held, the evidence presented, and a guilty verdict reached.

They were sentenced, but till now that sentence has not been carried out. They appealed. 'How can a loving God ... and so on and so forth.'

God issued a decree, that all may know that truth and righteousness were with Him, and that evil and devastation were the foundation of any and all who rejected Him. Further He presented a challenge, that He could create a being, lower than the angels, bound with many limitations, and that that creature would love Him, would fail, and then would rise back to even greater heights if given their freedom to choose.

The stage was set. Satan laughed at the creature. This was not going to be any kind of a challenge. Man fell from grace, and there was now a problem. What could mere man do for himself in order to get himself out of his predicament.

Once in the Garden, man was sinless and pure, clean and free from defect. But now man was wallowing in filth, dirty, and in need of a good scrubbing. Man could not clean up his own failure. Man was saturated with sin and death. Man was in a hopeless situation. Who would be there to help.

Gen. 3:15
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel. ' NASB

God was there. Since man was not the author of his own demise, but was influenced and tricked by Satan, so then God would step in to bail mankind out of his situation receiving but a bruise for His effort, and put the evil one out of his misery forever.

A man was chosen for his faith, Abraham. It would be through his pattern of faith that the savior would come.

Gen. 22:18
18 And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.' NASB

Then a star, a sign in the heavens and a son and a path, (if followed) through whom the savior could be found.

Num. 24:17
17 'I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; A star shall come forth from Jacob, And a scepter shall rise from Israel,' NASB

Further refinement in the pursuit of the savior. The family line was narrowed. A shepherd family was chosen.

Isa. 11:1
Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. NASB

Then a dynasty was selected. One that would be established and rule forever.

Jer. 23:5
5 'Behold, the days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'When I shall raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely And do justice and righteousness in the land. NASB

But who will bear this child? Who will be the one to bring forth one to whom mankind will look for their salvation?

Isa. 7:14
14 'Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.' NASB

Where will this occur? How will we know?

Mic 5:2
2 'But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.' NASB

And when? Can the generation or even the year be determined?

Dan. 9:25
25 'So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. NASB

Will there be other signs which will tell us of the birth of the savior?

Gen. 49:10
10 'The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. NASB

And so it was.
The line of man,
the seed of the woman,
the pattern of faith,
the family of the chosen,
the dynasty of the true rulership,
the place,
the generation,
the year,
and the very day.

All foretold during the course of 4000 years. So it was written, and so it was accomplished.

Through these few verses and many, many more, the promise of a savior was revealed and accomplished in history.

Then the event, the birth of the Savior.

Luke 2:8-14
8 And in the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields, and keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 And the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 'And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths, and lying in a manger.' 13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 'Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.' NASB

In this Christmas season, some of us are experiencing happy times, while others are in the midst of pressures, but rest assured that regardless of your circumstances, your happiness should depend on what you have in your soul, and not on your circumstances in life. The path to happiness is an easy and simple one to follow.

By means of Bible doctrine in the soul, we all can be made whole and complete. For those who heed the wisdom of a daily Bible study program, there is a great life ahead. For those who ignore it, there will be misery.

God promised us a savior and kept His promise. God promises us all happiness, and He gives us the means to acquire it. He has done His part, it is for each one of us to do ours, which is simply to study, and to learn, and to grow up in our spiritual lives. To this end a savior was given. A gift of immeasurable value. So during this Christmas season, give gifts, and eat hearty, and remember the one who has made it all possible.

For just as children look to Santa for their Christmas morning happiness, and the fulfillment of all of their Christmas dreams, so we should look to God and His Word for our eternal and permanent happiness and to the fulfillment of dreams that are even beyond our ability to imagine.

From my family to yours. Have a very merry Christmas, and stay in the word, Isa. 41:10.

Isa. 41:10
10 'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' NASB

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
