Isaiah 19:6

6 And they shall turn [zanach] the rivers [nahar] far away [zanach]; and the brooks [ya`or] of defence [matsowr] shall be emptied [dalal] and dried up [charab]: the reeds [qaneh] and flags [cuwph] shall wither [qamal].  KJV-Interlinear

6 And the canals will emit a stench, The streams of Egypt will thin out and dry up; The reeds and rushes will rot away.  NASB

From our Revelation study, the fresh water of the world becomes putrid, and so it is stated here. The rivers of Egypt will dry up as a result of the lack of rainfall, and that produces the stench of putrid water.

Putrid water promotes disease and sickness and death.

The reeds and flags, refer to the many forms of reeds and grasses that abound along the shores and water areas along the Nile. When the water dries up, the vegetation dies, along with many of the animals that depend on the river. This contributes to the stench and putridness of the water that remains.

In those ancient times, the river and its many canals and moats, provided a defense for villages and cities, but with the water gone, those defenses also vanish.

This gives us the understanding of just how the extreme of this situation will become.

Today cities do not depend on moats for their defense, but the point is that the waters of the Nile, in all of its historical vastness, will dwindle to little or nothing and with that decline, the area will stink, and disease will propagate throughout the region.

With no fresh water, then life will become unbearable, and worse than miserable.
