You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Psalm 10:3

3 For the wicked [rasha`] boasteth [halal] of his heart's [nephesh] desire, [ta'avah] and blesseth [barak] the covetous, [batsa`] whom the LORD [Yahovah] abhorreth. [na'ats] KJV-Interlinear

3 For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, And the greedy man curses and spurns the Lord. NASB

The wicked includes anyone who lacks Bible doctrine in their soul, or operates outside of the fellowship sphere in their daily life.

This includes by default, all unbelievers, and it also includes all believers who have dysfunctional spiritual lives, or otherwise do not function as they should in their daily lives within the fellowship sphere. That is to say, they do not confess regularly, their sins or spiritual short comings (failures in their spiritual obligations and responsibilities) as expected and defined by God.

Boasts, 'halal,' means to praise, rage, renown, shine, or the outward application of ones beliefs.

The heart, 'nephesh,' refers to the function of ones soul, the activity of thoughts and intents, based on the content of ones mind.

Therefore, the wicked have only sin and evil and lies and human viewpoint in their soul and that is what they think, and that is what they manifest in their daily lives. They praise their own opinions because that is all that they know. They rage, because all thought in darkness is disoriented to reality and subject to failure.

If all the soul has in it is darkness, then that is all the soul can project in life.

If all the soul has in it is darkness and disorientation, then darkness and disorientation is all that it can promote and praise and pursue and interpret as good. This is a delusional state of mind.

Covetous, 'batsa,' means to cut into pieces, to plunder, to be greedy. Then not being able to see the truth, and to see only things (emptiness or darkness) that do not and cannot satisfy, then the wicked person pursues more and more with greedy intent, to gain more and more of nothing, never being able to achieve contentment.

This results in the wicked blessing himself, for his own efforts, and at the same time detesting God by not giving any credit to God.

People who view themselves as self made or self directed are of this nature. They give credit to themselves, never considering that it is God who made them and set them in their circumstances, which made them successful or what they are.

Whom the Lord abhorreth, more correctly means that the Lord is the object of the wicked persons disgust. The wicked abhors the Lord, or the Lord is the one who the wicked abhors or rejects or detests.

Anyone who over estimates themselves, and sees themselves as somewhat independent of life and reality, anyone who believes that they can make up their own rules in life, for life, even in how their relationship will be with God, by default rejects the concept of God and His sovereign rule and authority and mandates and plan for life.

The wicked place their opinions and views and beliefs first, and above those from God.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
