Lesson # Parables of Christ - The Sower - Luke 8:13
Study Material - Parables of Christ - The Sower - Luke 8:13
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
The Sower Luke 8:13 13 [de] They on [epi] the rock [petra] are they, which [hos] , when [hotan] they hear [akouo] , receive [dechomai] the word [logos] with [meta] joy [chara] ; and [kai] these [houtos] have [echo] no [ou] root [rhiza] , which [hos] for [pros] a while [kairos] believe [pisteuo] , and [kai] in [en] time [kairos] of temptation [peirasmos] fall away [aphistemi] . KJV-Interlinear 13 'And those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away. NASB
20 'And the one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word, and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. NASB
16 'And in a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; 17 and they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away. NASB
The superficial hearer of the word, is the person who hears the good news and gets all emotional. He has information and no where to park that information. He has information and nothing to compare it with. He has information and no discernment. He just has emotion to go on.
Often times this occurs when the hearer is the target of shallow evangelism. The preachers that get up and shout and sing and make all manner of repetitive comments. Comments that are intended to arouse ones emotions, but in which there is no instruction - no meat to the message, only an emotional high.
People who hear the gospel and hear of the blessings tend to hear only what they want to hear. They ignore or do not hear the content of a message (if such 'cost' content is present) which spells out their obligations in life.
We hear the blessings, that God is on our side, that no one can touch us if God is on our side, that there is prosperity just over the hill, that our problems are a thing of the past, that life is going to be very cushy from here on out. Somehow we forget the fact that we still live in this devils world and that problems are not going to go away.
What happens to the shallow believer. He listens to the blessings over and over again. He listens to the gospel over and over again. And what he needs, is to grow up and get off of momma's milk and onto some solid food as it were. We cannot live in momma's arms forever.
The shallow believer doesn't make that commitment to get with a genuine program of daily Bible study, and if they do, they just do not pay attention. They do not listen, they do not apply the doctrine heard, to their life. Their soul is filled with rocky soil (indifferent attitude toward the solid foods of Bible instruction but wanting to remain in a sphere of no responsibility, or irresponsibility) with no depth for the doctrine to grow. They just want to hear the good and not hear of their responsibility.
Without doctrine in their soul, the inevitable happens - problems in the life. Bible study prepares the person for dealing with problems that 'will' come along in life. But for those who get emotional with respect to their 'good' perception of doctrine, but just do not commit to learning more Bible doctrine, then their soul is virtually empty of wisdom.
Bible doctrine learned and utilized in the life produces capacity for all manner of circumstances in life, but to those who just do not learn the more difficult principles of Bible doctrine, they lack capacity and therefore they lack muscle in the soul. They fall apart when problems come along in their life.
Their first order of business is to cry, to rage, to blame others or even blame God, to feel sorry for themselves. They have been lied to! This Bible stuff doesn't work! Whine! Whine! Whine! Do they ever consider that it might be their lack of 'proper' commitment to study, their lack of assuming responsibility for their decisions in life, their lack of following Gods expectations from them in life, that might be the source of their troubles?
God places on each of us certain expectations - first (for unbelievers) to hear the gospel. Second, (for believers) to study, learn, and apply doctrine in their life. To grow up. Third, in their application of Bible doctrine, to be responsible to Gods expectations -to be charitable and not greedy, to support the teaching of Gods Word in some fashion, to live life within the fellowship sphere and so forth.
Spiritual maturity produces a toughness of the soul, a spiritual toughness. Spiritual maturity produces an orientation to God, to life, to the world around us. We become street smart so to speak, without having to live on the streets.
The Word of God is a mirror into which we can look and evaluate our spiritual status. If we fall apart when problems arise, then we obviously need more spiritual training. Just tough the problems out, and maintain your Bible study. Learn and grow.
If we stand fast in the face of the social problems, tornado, hurricane, flood, war, unemployment, etc. then we need to continue our spiritual training because regardless of our spiritual state (immature or mature), problems are always going to be there. Bible study is something that we can never grow out of. Bible study is the only resource for gaining true courage and a fear free life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
