2 And he
cried out with a mighty voice, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the
great! And she has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison of every
unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird. NASB
The angel is not only the bright spot in the world, but his voice is loud, and becomes the only sound of truth, in the world.
With all of the world suffering in destruction, even the noise of the world falling apart is overwhelmed by the voice of reason and truth. This all occurs inside of John's vision. It is clear to him, and his writing makes it clear to each one of us. That good, is far more powerful and clear than evil.
Babylon is the phrase, the symbolism, for all of the cosmos diabolicus of Satan. All of his plans, all of his philosophies and religions and cults, and attempts to out maneuver or out do God, are all wrapped up in the term Babylon.
And despite many thousands of years of attempts, Satan will fail. His plans will fail. His efforts will fail.
In portraying his plans as good, which in fact are nothing more than a pseudo-good, or lies, the sum total of all of Satan's efforts add up to nothing more than a conglomeration of evil. Filled with demons and evil spirits, which make up the company of his fallen angels, and people who fool heartedly and naively pursue Satan's patterns of evil, then Babylon is nothing more than a barrel full of rot.
It is the habitation of devils, of demons, of bad spirits, which are nothing more than terms for the angels who, with Satan, originally turned against God long ago.
And a cage for every unclean and hateful bird, is a reference to scavenger birds who sit quietly in wait for the dying to die, and then they come in to eat the rot and ultimately clean up the mess left behind.
That is the heritage and destiny of evil. It becomes nothing more than rot for the ground and food for the scavengers. And anyone who rejects God, Christ, doctrine, and their spiritual life, is no better and can expect no better than scavenger food made up of themselves.
