Remember that most of the application of these prophecies is to the end days of history, even though there is an application to Judah and Samaria in Isaiah's day, and to every person throughout history with regard to their individual lives.
When the visitation, or destruction of God, comes, it will come like a whirlwind with extreme calamity and devastation, and it will come with such a suddenness, that no one could possibly expect it.
It will come from afar. And this means generally that it will come from beyond your expectation, from beyond your borders, from some foreign country. But when applied to individuals it comes from beyond their thinking apparatus, from outside of their realm of expectations.
In the Tribulation, both of these applications will apply. Foreign nations will come from afar to destroy Israel. And as far as individuals are concerned, those who have no doctrine in them, it will strike without warning. They will be in shock.
Where then will your glory be placed?
The word for leave, means to deposit or to place. And this phrase lets the reader know that when disaster of the type being described, strikes, then there will be no time to gather up your possessions, no time to protect your property.
But this also applies to your inner glory or arrogance, which got you in this predicament in the first place. So where will your opinions be now? Where will your beliefs be now? Where will your attitude be now? Where will you place all that has been the priority of your life, but is now about to be totally wiped out as though it never existed?
For people who spend their entire life pursuing their owned definition of happiness or excitement or pleasures, and usually at the expense of others, even at the expense of themselves, then when disaster strikes and their realities turn out to be not so real, then they will realize too late, that they have nothing, gained nothing, and have wasted their entire life for nothing.
This applies to all unbelievers certainly, to all sinners for certain, and unfortunately to all those who believe that they have been doing God work, but are really not, because they rejected Gods mandates for study and learning and growth, and have been chasing after their own works or their own definition of the spiritual life which revolves around their own personal beliefs and conveniences, and not Gods commands.
