8 The birds
of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of
the seas. NASB
Birds can fly and man cannot, and yet man has been given authority over the birds that can go places that no human can go.
This, it would seem, that man has dominion over places that are even beyond his reach.
And as for the sea, the fish and all occupants of the oceans, as further still beyond the reach of humanity. The oceans are deep and the pressures at the most deep points make those regions even beyond mans reach. And yet still humanity was given authority over the content of the seas.
Certainly in Adam's day all of these things were beyond his reach and control, even though now technology has given man many advantages, and yet man still has never achieved total dominance over the animal life on the planet.
And whatever passes through the paths of the seas, is a reference to roads or highways. This is a figure of speech that indicates travel over and through the waters.
It certainly includes the use of ships, but also extends to the currents under the oceans, that travel around the entire planet.
And even though we have recently come to know of many of these currents and conveyors, we have no complete knowledge as to their purpose or their function and or what is affected.
The same applies to the animals, the birds, and the fish on the planet. The balancing acts of nature have always been beyond mans knowledge and any and all attempts to control animal life have been total failures through abuse and/or ill conceived plans.
So, the picture is clear, and the point is simple. God has given man control over the very simple things of life and yet humanity has no clue as to how to go about it.
The same principle applies to mans spiritual life. It is the most simple concept to understand, and yet most people are clueless and failures at their spiritual life.
They either reject Christ and therefore have no spiritual life, and this applies to most of the worlds population.
Or, they have believed in Christ and still fail because they have their own ideas as to how their spiritual life works. Believers fail because they simply do not listen, do not learn, and therefore do not understand. And this applies to most believers.
There are very few believers who apply themselves to learning doctrine, and therefore come to understand it.
