4 Let them
be put to shame and dishonor who seek after my life! Let them be turned back
and disappointed who devise evil against me! ESV
There are two types of people in this world. Those who are Christians, and those who are not. And even among Christians, not all are true to the faith and doctrine and principles of Christ.
Of those who are Christian and faithful to Gods mandates, then all of the promises of God, apply, especially the promises of rewards and eternal blessings that are set apart for mature believers.
Of those who are not faithful, and that also includes all unbelievers, then the promises of God are not applicable. Salvation is withheld from those who reject it, and blessing are withheld from those who refuse to comply with Gods will.
For everyone who does not comply with Gods plan, then they have their own plan, which is simply to have their own way regardless of God or truth. They in effect try to take that which does not belong to them.
And since the rightful owners of Gods blessings are those who are obedient, then all attempts to take from them is a direct attack against God as well as the obedient.
This provides for a wide range of enemies of God. From simple gossips, to the more evil minded types of people. In every case, all are out to steal from and to destroy Gods people.
And so we have a prayer to God, that He will cause all of the plans and efforts of evil, in whatever form, to fail.
This is an appropriate prayer, if offered in truth, and not in revenge or rage or hate and such.
Your agenda must be true. God does not honor false or evil intended agendas.
God does not promote you at the expense of others. God does block the attempts of evil and protects the rights of the just.
God defines what is evil or just, through doctrine.
