[adelphos] KJV-Interlinear 27 I adjure you by the Lord to
have this letter read to all the brethren.
NASB To charge, or to adjure,
carries the authority or power of an order from a recognized higher authority. This is an order, and
not a request.Not something that you
can consider and either do or not do.In
this order you have no choice in the matter.
You are bound by the order to follow it, to the letter. When in the military,
the higher authority gives orders to the subordinates. The subordinate has no choice but to obey and
follow the orders given.Now, these are
honest and lawful orders, of course. And it is the same
here.Paul is giving all believers an
order.Read these words. Read this letter. Read the scriptures. Why?Because
they are truth and your access to truth.
By ignoring the order
to read, as most will, because they resent being given orders, then you are
left only lies to consider as a guide for your life. If you reject truth, then what is remaining
for you? By refusing, resisting,
objecting, being indifferent or apathetic toward reading the scriptures, then
you are disobedient not only to God, but to truth. You by default are embracing lies. By ignoring the
scriptures, you are in effect, believing that all there is to life is whatever
it is that is going on around you in your life or in the world. And whatever goes on after this life, is whatever it is that you want to believe it s going
to be.And that is the biggest and most
dangerous mistake that you or anyone could ever make, because you are gambling
your entire eternal future (which is a very, very, very long time) to beliefs
that have no basis in fact. Now, we just finished
studying in these past few verses, the need for examination of the
scriptures.That examination, or
questioning (objectively), is something that will save your life and help you
avoid a great deal of grief in your life. Positive believers
question, ask, verify, review, dig deep to discover the truth s of a matter. Those who reject truth,
don t.Those who are negative toward
God, toward Christ, toward doctrine, and so forth, reject truth without
examination, and in contrast, will accept the carnal beliefs of this world,
without question. In some of the worst case
scenarios of history, people followed, Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and
others.They rejected truth, and ended
up involved in some of the most violent segments of history. You are not exempt from this kind of
result.Thus the order. Read and study truth, because its alternative is never good.
Now is the time to post a prayer. End Of Lesson Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth. |
