1 Timothy 2:15

DailyBibleStudy.Org

15 Notwithstanding [de] she shall be saved [sozo] in [dia] childbearing, [teknogonia] if [ean] they continue [meno] in [en] faith [pistis] and [kai] charity [agape] and [kai] holiness [hagiasmos] with [meta] sobriety. [sophrosune] KJV-Interlinear

15 But women shall be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. NASB

Often times, the world will take an incident or error, and misapply it such that someone or something bears the stigma of that error, for the rest of their life. The world is unforgiving and certainly prejudiced against forgiveness and forgetting the error, that was forgiven. After all, to forgive means to forget as though it (the error) never existed.

But God has a sense of humor, and in that humor, has given both man and woman specific roles in society. Both of which compliment His plan for humanity and for history. And at the same time, do not in any way place a superiority or inferiority label on anyone.Only people do that sort of thing.

So, Paul uses this example of Adam and Eve, to teach us all a lesson.

Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden.

Now our planet earth held that Garden, the size of which we do not know, but it must have been substantial, since there was (implied) a huge animal population within it, as well as plant life.

God singled out only one tree that was forbidden.A garden has lots of trees, so that prohibition should not have been too great of a burden.

But Eve, was not listening to her daily studies, as Christ walked with them both, in the Garden, everyday.

We already saw how Eve confused the taboo, and did not recognize the change in the vocabulary of her pet.

Anyway, she sinned first, then brought the fruit to Adam and he, knowing what he was doing, sinned second.

Adam held a place of authority and therefore of responsibility. He failed.Eve likewise held a place within their little society, but regardless of her place, she too had a responsibility. She failed.

Man does not forgive, but God does, and therefore God gave both Adam (man) and Eve (woman) an out, both in a spiritual sense and in a temporal sense.

God gave man the responsibility to teach doctrine.God gave woman, the responsibility of child birth.

Both failed in their life, but both are given an out.

Through man, spiritual understanding may be obtained.Through woman, the savior would be brought into the world. Each has their role. Neither is the lesser for their part in life.

Paul uses the plural, they, to generalize for all women, so he is not referring to Eve or even to Mary per se, but to all women throughout all of history. Through their gender they all possess the same attributes and therefore responsibilities, and therefore blessings.

But just as being blamed for the fall of humanity, and therefore being forced into a submissive role is unfair, likewise, being the pattern of the birth of the Savior is also not a source for boasting. And Paul quickly points that out.

Women (men as well), must continue in faith, charity, holiness and sobriety. What are these? Expressions for your spiritual life.

Faith is non-meritorious belief. No one gets credit of their faith.Only Christ receives credit for His work.

Charity is agape or the source of scriptural content (Bible doctrine).

Holiness is the combining of righteousness and justice, which come together to form holiness. This is a state of purity which exists when the believer is in fellowship.

And sobriety is ones self discipline, ones self control, ones poise, or soundness of mind, which come only from a daily diet of scriptural study.

Your emphasis in life should not be in the temporal role you have been assigned, but in the pursuit of your spiritual growth to maturity.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
