Psalm 16:9

http://www.dailybiblestudy.org

9 Therefore my heart [leb] is glad, [samach] and my glory [kabowd] rejoiceth: [giyl] my flesh [basar] also shall rest [shakan] in hope. [betach] KJV-Interlinear

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely.  NASB

The heart is often used as a symbol of the active function of the soul. And as the physical heart in the physical body, serves as a pump for keeping the blood moving, so then the heart function within the soul, refers to the activity of thought that keeps moving in the soul.

Glory here is a reference to the splendor or essence of ones entire self.

When the heart or soul is happy, then that overflows to the entire total essence of the person.

Flesh resting in hope, is a reference to resurrection.

In the natural sense, the physical body will live and then die and decay into nothing. But to rest in hope, indicates the view of another life that follows this one. That life continues after death. That death is not simply an end and then nothing.

David, looks beyond this life with confidence that yet another life will be there as promised by God.

Therefore with God located at ones right hand, and that refers to the total content of the scriptures as they are available to each person, then with that knowledge and growth in ones spiritual life, confidence follows naturally as the believer knows and believes and has confidence that this life is not all that there is, but there is something better and certain, and God controls it all.

Therefore a unique inner happiness and positive view of life results, regardless of the circumstances that you may have in this life.
